Make History Come Alive at The Hermitage!

At The Hermitage, docents (from the Latin word docere, to teach) are trained educators who help to further the public’s understanding of the rich cultural and historical collections of The Hermitage. Docents give tours of The Hermitage and assist with hands-on activities during our popular school/family programs.

Time Commitment: Docents attend bi-weekly lectures and workshops on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m.–12 noon, September – April, with a break in December/January. In addition, new docents are required to observe a minimum of three tours, to be arranged in conjunction with Hermitage staff. Once a docent is ready to lead tours, they are expected to sign up for a minimum of two days of public tours OR a minimum of three school programs a month. Public tour hours are 1 p.m. - 4 p.m., Wednesday-Sunday; school programs are available Monday-Friday and last about 2 hours.
