Join the Friends of the Hermitage
You are invited to join the Friends of the Hermitage, Inc. 
The Hermitage is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. Contributions are tax-deductible and are eligible for corporate matching-gift programs. Member contributions support our activities and help us provide outstanding events and educational programs. To become a member of the Friends of the Hermitage, Inc., please print and fill out the form and send along with your membership dues made payable to Friends of the Hermitage, The Hermitage, 335 North Franklin Turnpike, Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ  07423-1035. Volunteer Opportunities

Camp Counselor: Assist with the summer Time Travelers day camp (minimum age of 14 by June 30). 

 

Collections Assistant: Under the direction of the Collections Manager, assist with cataloguing and caring for collections. Data entry skills helpful. 

 

Docent: Give guided tours helping visitors explore the past at The Hermitage and understand how it functioned as a home in the 19th century. 

 

Education Assistant: Assist museum educators with development and teaching of educational programs for groups of children and/or adults. 

 

Events: One day volunteer opportunities. Assist at entrance gates, patio cafe, etc. 

 

Facilities Management: Help maintain our museum, The Hermitage Education & Conference Center, and grounds.  

 

Internships and Service Learning for High School and College Students: Unique research and program assistance opportunities are offered for high school and college students to learn through working with our archives and collections or assisting museum staff with programs. 

 

Library/Archive Assistant: Maintain reference books and periodicals, including updating catalogue. 

 

Museum Shop: Sell Museum Shop items, collect admission fees, and organize tours of the historic house museum. 

 

Office Assistant: Answer phones. Make calls under the direction of staff. Make copies and collate material. Help with computer entry. Label, fold and stuff envelopes for mailings. Sort, bundle and count bulk mailings. 

 

Research: Under the direction of the Director of Historical Studies or the Collections Manager, conduct research on collections and the site for interpretation or for the use in exhibitions and educational programming using The Hermitage archives and outside sources.
